LET'S BE AN ADULT

let's be an adult about this:

you don't piss on me,
and I won't piss on you.

we'll each take turns
pissing behind that tree.

me first, then you.

A CIVILIZED MADNESS

it is a civilized craziness that walks among us.
to walk through our dreams in an uncivilized manner.
from this we must deliver our own madness,
creating our own hell, there within to gather.

THINKING

well, if that's what you think, think it.
just don't expect us to live it.
living above, below and in it.
none of us here need it.
perhaps you should think about revising it.

we only need kiss one ass,
and for the rest of our lives
we'll be known as an ass-kisser.

BORED WITH WHO I AM

bored with who I am
I stand back
and slap myself
with my left hand
to remind myself
I'm a right handed man.

I've always said
I'm a man's man
with the right
self made plan.

hand over hand,
I slap myself again,
again and again.

I think I'm starting
to like this slapping.

but I have yet to decide
which hand
is the right slapping hand,

and which hand
to wipe my ass
when I'm done in the can.

pour me another, Sam,
my hearted man.

and, Sam, please
lend me a hand.

I perceive trouble
as a new form of entertainment
ready for development

"Friends may come and go, but enemies accumulate."

and the wind abides no fools.

THERE ARE THOSE

there are those
who would love
to kick my ass.

and there are those
who would love
to steal my stash.

cash and carry:
i would love
to pick her berries.

but she has no berries,
only cash,
and keeps that cash
firmly in her grasp!

maybe I'll try some
smash and grab
and suck up
some of her berries.

merry, merry,
quite contrary,
how do you berries grow?

A DARK PROBLEM

it comes upon us quietly
to listen to our fears.
moving ever so slowly;
sometimes taking years.

problems define our rights;
reason for us to belong;
a tumbling of souls in the night;
problems defining right from wrong.

such is a fool
to walk beside a problem dark,
and use for a tool;
residing its soul to the dark.

as any pimple knows
its best look
is on the nose
where best it shows

a solitary seagull cries
an old man sighs
his life slipping by

HOW ODD IT SEEMS

how odd it seems
to wake one day
and discover
everything
i thought was right
was truly wrong.

and the songs
i sang were
someone else's songs.

and now it seems
i'm dreaming
someone else's dreams.

and i don't have a clue
what all of this means,
but it makes me mean.

and i mean to say,
i better not find you
in one of my dreams!

and if i do,
i sure as  hell will teach you
new ways to scream!

between the ancient myths of yesteryear
and the great promise of tomorrow.

but the blood of many flows here,

washing away the great promise of tomorrow.

then, a great misery did wake,
and it did strike out among the populace
to enslave all its children,

and destroy forever the great promise of tomorrow.

as the politicians dig themselves in deeper,
and the rest of us scurry around
           in an attempt to survive,
the world prepares to dump the entire mess
                                                    back to the stone age.

POLITICIAN

a politician
is a person
who can stand
in a crowd,
pass gas
and make
the crowd
believe
they did it.

as the centuries rumble along,
and man sings his mournful song,
the man on the corner
holds out his hand
as we sit at our dinner tables,
and we don't see beyond our plates.

fresh  apple pie, anyone?

perhaps love is something other
perhaps the dag ate the cat
perhaps the pig is a cow in drag
perhaps I'm crazy
perhaps you're just plain nuts
do you see where this is going?
perhaps you're just a ghost
perhaps it's the need for speed, or greed
perhaps, perhaps is just perhaps, or happenstance
do you smoke weed?
perhaps you'll buy me new shoes
perhaps all of this is all for naught
do you think you'll ever be caught?
perhaps I'll cut you some slack, or scratch your back
perhaps I'll shove your head in a sack
do you think you'll like that?
perhaps, perhaps is getting on my nerves
perhaps tomorrow I'll be singing the blues
perhaps tomorrow you'll be in the news
do you have any loose screws?
perhaps I'll blow in your ear
perhaps I'm the one you fear

BRAIN WASHING

they are a bunch
of ignorant people,

being brain washed
by clever people

into believing
anything
the clever people
want the ignorant
people to believe.

brain washing
by the numbers!

what number are you?

I escaped!
so can you!

I think for myself!
so can you!

color of my sky is blue.
what color is your sky?

"When I am working on a problem I never think about beauty. I only think about how to solve the problem. But when I have finished, if the solution is not beautiful, I know it is wrong."

Buckminster Fuller (1895-1983)

a great poet
once told me
to write what
I feel

I told the
great poet
I don't feel
anything

the great poet
shot me
in the foot
and said
write about that

I  limped away
with a better
understanding
about writing

and wrote about
a great poet
that shot me
in the foot

and now
I carry a gun
to protect myself
from great poets

CORN FED

corn fed,
American bred,
most have been
something she said.

but why in hell
is her face turning red?

i think her boy friend
is under our bed!

KNOWING WE CAN NEVER WIN

knowing we can never win
hoping for at least a draw
keeps us doubting blue skies
and golden leaves in the fall

the dangers we seek
are the dangers we need
to keep us alive
to keep us up to speed

without danger to inspire us
we are nothing more
than simple beings existing

CAUSE

a grade a day
sunshine after rain
favorite fishing pole
favorite fishing hole
nothing more to say
just a grade a day

it came as a terrible shock
to discover, realize
the day survived without me

the sky is blue without me

i may need help surrendering
to this horrendous shock

i may need pack up, head out
find a new day, new sky
a new side of the world
I'm able to set free

a world I'm able to whip into shape

make it obey me, love me

make it look like I want it to look
a world I break to lead
harness to plow a path
across endless space and time

this isn't midnight, but as close as one can get
without getting arrested and hung out to dry.
