In beauty of face no maiden ever equaled her.
It was the radiance of an opium-dream,
an airy and spirit-lifting vision more wildly divine
than fantasies which hovered about the slumbering souls
of the daughters of Delos.

Edgar Allan Poe, Ligeia

They sent forth men to battle,
but no such men return;
and home, to claim their welcome,
come ashes in an urn.

Aeschylus, Agamemnon

Charles Brokaw, The Lucifer Code

You cannot protect yourself from sadness without
protecting yourself from happiness.

Jonathan Safran Foer

Be glad of life because it gives you the chance
to love and to work and to play.

those young things
and summer
go together

in the park,
on the beach,
wearing little more
than a dream;
gives us
old farts a reason
to hold on
through another miserable
waiting for summer.

and those young
showing almost all,
its them
keeping us old farts
coming back, and back
for more,

'til a rogue winter
claims our souls.

All the information you could want is constantly streaming at you
like a runaway truck - books, newspaper stories, Web sites,
apps, how-to videos, this article you're reading, even entire
magazines devoted to single subjects like charcuterie
or wedding cakes or pickles

Mario Batali

Very deep, very deep is the well of the past.
Should we not call it bottomless?

as children,
the world is ours for the taking.

as adults,
the world slaps us in the face
and puts us in our place.

Ringo Star appeared in a Japanese advertisement for apple sauce.
Ironically his name means "apple sauce" in Japanese.

Showing off is the fool's idea of glory.

A quick temper will make a fool of you soon enough.

Bruce Lee

Every man is a damn fool for at least five minutes every day;
wisdom consists in not exceeding the limit.

those great big beautiful
vulnerable blue eyes

she look  through me
she sees all my

deceit and lies
she has doomed me

with those beautiful
big blue eyes

and i shall suffer
shall pay dearly

for all  my
deceit and lies

but she won't allow
that i cry

The past does not repeat itself, but it rhymes.

Mark Twain

There's many a man has more hair than wit.

William Shakespeare

Scientists say the higher your I.Q. the more you dream.
(Well, that explains why I don't dream!)

I should work on
my handicap.
but I'm just one of those
spit-in-the-pan kinda man.

handicap notwithstanding.

if i could stand,
I'd pee instead of spit
in that greasy old pan.

if you come to visit,
please bring a fan.
ain't life grand.....

those that kiss and tell
have no place in politics,
but its the first place to look,
for those looking for scandal.

Oddly enough, MS has made my life so much better than it was before.
I now appreciate what I have and I am not running
around like a rat in a maze.

Teri Garr

I love to deer hunt and fish and drive down the back roads in my truck.
All those things basically equal freedom to me, and not having to
return that message or call from my record company or management.
At some point, I need to recharge.

when I read something
its with the idea
i will learn something
from whatever it is
that i read.

maybe I'll google you,
learn something
about you.
read all there is to know
about you.

how cool is that?

you won't sue, will you?
when I learn what
you did in school,
and I blog it
for all cyberspace
to giggle over?

This country, with its institutions, belongs to the people
who inhabit it. Whenever they shall grow weary of
the existing government, they can exercise their
constitutional right of amending it, or exercise
their revolutionary right to overthrow it.

Paul McCartney's Birth Certificate was auctioned in March 1997.
for US $84,146.
It is believed to be the world's most expensive Birth Certificate.

Ants stretch when they wake up in the morning.
(oh gosh, we really needed to know this!)
(wonder how much it cost to research?)

He who is carried on another's back does not

Of all the 'attitudes' we can acquire, surely the attitude of gratitude
is the most important and by far the most life-changing.
Zig Ziglar

Why do some cats put their toys in their food or water dish?
They look upon their food area as their own territory and
as such are putting their favorite toys in a safe place.

that fork in the road
now cruddy and crusty
from all those years
that old fork
lying in the road
now useless and old
story told

There's a weird cloud around you when you're recognizable.
It was a brief window for me. I think you have to have
a pathological need for attention of any type,
negative or positive, to thrive in that kind of situation.
and I only want compliments.

Diablo Cody

Accidents on big mountains happen when people's ambitions
cloud the good judgement. Good climbing is about climbing
with heart and with instinct, not ambition and pride.

Bear Grylls

The propensity to truck, barter and exchange one thing for another
is common to all men, and to be found in no other race of animals.

A medical student currently doing a rotation in toxicology
at the poison control center, received a call from a very
upset woman because she caught her little daughter
eating ants. He quickly reassured her that the ants were not
harmful and there would be no need to bring her daughter
into the hospital. The woman calmed down and at the end of
the conversation happened to mention that she gave her
daughter some ant poison to eat in order to kill the ants.

He told her that she better bring her daughter in to the
emergency room right away.

(there are people that should not have children!)

and we cried victory, victory!
and we were overcome
both jubilant and grief
and we fell to our knees and cried
for so many of us have shed their blood!
and so many of us lie dead!

He who joyfully marches to the music in rand and file
has already earned my contempt.
He has been given a large brain by mistake,
since for him the spinal cord would suffice.

Albert Einstein

Every gun that is made, every warship launched,
every rocket fired, signifies in the final sense a theft
from those who hunger and are not fed,
those who are cold and are not clothed.
